The Power of Motivation & Goal Setting

Success in school is a process that calls for more than just showing up to class and doing your homework. Setting goals and being motivated are two essential components that are necessary to achieving your educational potential. Students at any level of their academic career can benefit greatly from these resources. Whether you are a pupil returning to the classroom after break time, a student in secondary school aiming for the highest grades or a university student navigating the complexity of higher education, learning the art of motivation and goal setting can greatly improve their educational journey and accomplishments.

SMART Goals

Effective goals are SMART: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. This framework ensures that your goals are clear and attainable. For instance, instead of saying, “I want to do well in maths,” a SMART goal would be, “I aim to score at least 90% on my next maths exam by studying for one hour each day over the next three weeks.”

Role of motivation in academic success

Intrinsic motivation comes from an individual. It’s the inner motivation to study, experiment and achieve success for the pure pleasure and fulfilment that comes with the journey. Motivated students are more likely to be driven by excitement, dedication and sincere interest in the material they are studying. This is an example of intrinsic motivation. Extrinsic motivation is when the root of the learner's determination is fulfilling expectations or obtaining particular results. This helps reach short-term objectives and promote a goal-oriented mindset but risks the result of having a superficial understanding of the subject matter when obtaining the reward takes priority over in-depth comprehension.

Motivation is a core part of our strategy at Rewise Learning. Our workshops and resources are fantastic on their own, but motivating learners by showing them what they could achieve is one of our secrets to success.
